What is it you do, exactly?
We listen to what you like and don't like, how you live and use your space. We help you achieve - with skill and imagination - what you desire. You'll find that our solutions balance aesthetics with living patterns. We evaluate your existing space, plans to add or build brand new, and offer information, resources, and drawings to depict your choices. In addition to listening to your preferences, we keep in mind function, budget, location, and setting of the building. For more detail about the process just click on space planning.

Is our project too small?
Not at all! Space planners are like detectives. Finding the best solution that fits most, if not all of the wishes is our job. We do many, many small projects for people who are eager to make the most with what they have. One client told us we provided "the delicious difference." In our view, solutions are answers to challenges of any size. Whether you have a closet or a whole-house design, one department or an entire building, we provide a flexible, accessible service.

How do you differ from an interior designer or an architect?
As spatial designers, we combine the disciplines of architecture and interior design. We assess spatial problems and functional patterns. The knack for seeing things that will solve the problems is what sets us apart.

We create personal solutions to fit your needs. In other words, we listen to what you want to do, look at the space you have, and offer solutions. Our goal is for your space to work well for you inside and outside.

How do you charge?
We work by the hour on all but large commercial projects. We do this to allow everyone to take advantage of the design process because prudent planning with a professional actually saves you time and money. You may ask for consultation only, for rough plans, full plans, or engage us for the entire project. The choice is yours. To find out more about exactly what services we provide, simply click on AEG/SDC.

We've already started our project... Can you still help?
Certainly. There are many givens in any remodeling job. In the case of partially done projects, there are just more givens! We pride ourselves in being adept at these jobs. Many questions come up along the way. We are sensitive to decisions that have been made and have no proprietary feelings that everything be done through us.

How long does it take?
Will all the merchandise be purchased ahead of time and be sitting in a warehouse? Is the contractor fully staffed? Are the subcontractors all available? Will the weather cooperate? Will the plan remain unchanged?

Most of the time, projects don't need to take as long as they do - they just need better planning and coordination. Having a project manager makes all the difference. The added cost is frequently outweighed by the time saved.

Do you help with budget development?
Yes. We'll work with you and your contractor in every way we can. We try to suggest alternatives and substitute materials if it becomes necessary.

Do you sell merchandise?
Not really, we provide ideas and resources. However, if our clients find it more convenient for us to do the ordering, we will.

Will you review our building plans and will this help?
Often we are asked to look at plans. We are a sounding board for your concerns. Often we ask questions that you may not have thought of and help you determine priorities. Sometimes, small design changes prior to construction will greatly benefit the outcome of a project. For instance, increasing the hallway width, changing a door swing, planning lighting and art placement - all these factors can affect how we enjoy a room for years to come.

Suppose I have my own contractor?
We are pleased to work with a variety of tradespeople. The relationships we've built with some contractors allow the work to move a bit faster because they know what we're looking for. By the same token, we've worked with contractors throughout the country with great success as well. Just let us know your preference.

Suppose I have my own ideas?
We hope you do. After all, we're designing a space with you! We'll add, augment, question, and refine your ideas that's why you hire us. We'll give you the benefit of our professional opinion and ideas. But the last word is always yours. The only time we insist is when safety or code issues are involved.
